New HiWatch Varifocal Cameras
Chosing the right camera for your installation can be the make or break decision. You don't want a limited view where you might miss intruders, but equally you want to capture faces for identification.
The normal approach is to choose a camera lens with the correct field of view to capture the scene you're interested in. For wide shots close to 90° a 2.8mm lens gives great results.
If you want a closer shot for face then a 3.8mm lens can give you approximately a 55-65° field of view.
If you have a corridor or alleyway however, you will want to minimise as much as possible the walls with a 6-12mm lens. Then you can narrow down the field to 10-20°.
But none of this is necessary with varifocal lenses! You simple fix the camera in the best spot and adjust the lens to suit the scene.
No need to worry about different camera lenses or how many of each you might need - just make them all the same and adjust between 2.8-12mm once they are fitted.
